ActiGraph is the industry standard for the measurement of physical activity. Used by researchers and clinicians in hundreds of universities and research organizations in more than 40 countries, the ActiGraph activity monitor is the most validated and widely used device of its kind.

The ActiGraph uses a dual-axis, solid state accelerometer to measure human movement against the force of gravity. This technology was first developed in the early 1990s by the US military to measure the performance levels of troops. In the following years, the applications for actigraphy have grown to include physical activity research, sleep diagnostics, rehabilitation monitoring, obesity and diabetes prevention, sports medicine, pharmaceutical drug testing, veterinary science and much more!

In 1988, a skilled team of professors and engineers collaborated to design a device for the United States Military to measure the activity levels of troops in the field. Realizing the potential of their product, the company, Computer Science and Applications, Inc. (CSA), began marketing this actigraphy monitor to potential customers in institutions all over the world. In 2001, CSA was acquired by Manufacturing Technology, Inc (MTI) who improved upon the device, eventually generating enough interest worldwide to justify the formation of ActiGraph in 2004.

Today, researchers and physicians in over 40 countries are using ActiGraph activity monitors in the fields of exercise science, obesity and diabetes research, sleep diagnostics, rehabilitation monitoring, sports medicine, pharmaceutical drug testing and veterinary science.
